The Department of Food Science and Technology was established by Law 4610/2019 for the synergy of the University of Peloponnese with the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Peloponnese. It is the upgrade of the Department of Food Technology of the former TEI of Peloponnese to a University department. The former was founded in 1999 as the Department of Agricultural Products Technology of the TEI of Kalamata (Presidential Decree 200/1999, Government Gazette AΔ179) and it was renamed as Department of Food Technology of the TEI of Peloponnese in 2009. The department has 11 faculty members and 3 members of laboratory technical staff.
The department offers the Undergraduate Program ΄΄Food Science and Technology ΄΄ (university program).
Level of qualification: 1st cycle of studies / Level in accordance to the Hellenic Qualification Framework: 6 / Level in accordance to the UNESCO ISCED 2011 classification: 6.
Duration: ten (10) semesters or five (5) years program. 300 ECTS credits required for graduation.
The department organizes a Postgraduate Program ΄΄Technology & Quality of Table Olive & Olive Oil΄΄.
On an annual basis, the Department of Food Science and Technology welcomes approximately 140 undergraduate and up to 20 postgraduate students, who follow an up-to-date study program.
The University of the Peloponnese was founded with the issuance of the Presidential Decree 13/01-02-2000. The seat of the University is in Tripolis, while its 9 Schools and 22 Departments are located in the five capitals of the prefectures in the region of the Peloponnese, as well as in Patras.
The operation of the University was inaugurated on September 20th of 2002 and, up to now, the University has accomplished to recruit highly rated academic staff and to establish a considerable network of European and international cooperations. Its human capital includes 350 professors, 89 special teaching staff, 160 administrative staff members, while more than 22000 undergraduate students, postgraduate students and Ph.D. candidates are enrolled; additionally, 1300 students are enrolled in lifelong learning programmes.
